Terms of Service

Last updated: 25 May 2026. These are the rules for using the WC 2026 Prediction Game — a private promotional competition.

1. The deal in one sentence

Pick scores for World Cup matches, see how you stack up against your friends, have fun. That's it.

2. This is a promotional project

Just so we're on the same page about what you signed up for:

  • A single-person company runs this app as a promotional project — not a commercial product, but not a personal hobby either. No revenue, no growth targets, no business agenda.
  • No money changes hands. No ads. No tracking. No real business agenda. Well — who am I kidding, there's always some agenda: maybe you find this cool and want to do some business together. Or if it fails catastrophically, at least you know who to avoid.
  • One caveat on the “no ads” line: if this thing somehow goes viral and the server bills outgrow the promotional budget, I reserve the right to slap up a few discreet ads to keep the lights on. Not likely — but if you see an ad, that's why.
  • It might disappear after the tournament ends — that's fine, World Cups end too.

3. Using the service

A few ground rules so the leaderboard stays a leaderboard and not a circus:

  • You'll behave in a way you'd be happy to explain to your grandparents.
  • One account per person. Don't impersonate anyone.
  • Don't try to break the app, scrape it, or stuff the leaderboard with bot predictions.
  • We reserve the right to remove accounts that ruin the fun for everyone else.

4. Disclaimer (the legally-binding part)

  • The service is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
  • Match results, scoring, leaderboard standings, and bracket projections may contain errors. They are derived from third-party data sources (football-data.org) and our own logic; both can fail. Treat outputs as informational only.
  • The operator is not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the service — including but not limited to data loss, incorrect calculations, missing predictions, or wagers placed elsewhere based on this app's projections.
  • If the data is lost or corrupted (server failure, database issue, mistake), we will attempt to restore what we can, but we make no guarantee that any specific prediction or result will survive.
  • You use the service at your own risk and understanding of the above.

5. Credits

The best part of building this with friends is that the best ideas weren't mine. The scoring rules went through several rounds of back-and-forth between Matias's Claude AI and Ilari's Claude AI — with a few human arguments along the way — before all three of us signed off. What you see is a shared call, and a better one for it:

  • The original scoring idea and the groundwork came from Matias. Most of what makes the math feel fair started as his thinking — the stage multipliers, the all-or-nothing group bonus, the 90-minute-only rule.
  • Ilari school-graded and independently verified every revision. If the numbers add up — and after that many passes, they really should — the credit is his.
  • I'm the operational one: the build, the buttons, the deploys, and the late-night bug fixes. Anything that breaks here is on me; the scoring rules aren't in that category.

6. Changes

These terms can change. If they do, the “Last updated” date will move. Substantive changes will be flagged with a notice the next time you sign in.

7. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Finland. Any disputes go through Finnish courts.
